Do you ever go to grab something to find you don’t have it? Don’t you hate it when that happens? I just did this the other day when looking for a small pinboard for my notes. I had taped some notes up above my desk to have them just keep falling down. Guess tape isn’t as sticky as it used to be. Or I guess it might have to do with the mini fan I have blasting all the extra air I can get at me next to my desk. No, it can’t be that! Its gotta be the crappy tape. That’s what I’m sticking with anyway. Ha! That was a little puny wasn’t it? Ok, I will move on:) Anyway, that is what lead me to making a DIY pinboard.
I had went looking for a pin board (bulletin board is what I call it) that I was sure I had stashed somewhere. In fact, I was pretty sure I had a couple of those hanging out somewhere. But I could not find any of them anywhere. Then I remembered I probably donated them or gave them to someone since I have been on a kick to get rid of all the things I’m not using. Figures, I finally decide I need one and I don’t have any anymore. I was super irritated because I just wanted to hang these notes in front of me so I could read them if I needed and not have them dropping on my desk every thirty seconds.
How To Make Your DIY Pinboard
Then I thought about it and decided I probably had some supplies around that I could use to make a DIY pinboard. So I went hunting through all my craft goods. I found a green wreath form that is used for sticking fake flowers and such in and thought it might work for the base. I grabbed a push pin to see if it would stick easily enough and not just fall out. It worked!
I did not want to just hang the green styrofoam looking wreath up like that so I looked through all of my burlap and ribbons to find one I could use to wrap it with. So I decided to use some wide burlap ribbon I had to wrap around the whole frame. Then I used hot glue on the last edge/the end of the burlap to glue it onto the frame. I did have it overlap the burlap a little before folding the edge and glueing it.
Next I found some cute ribbon I had laying around to decorate my DIY pinboard. I chose an old yellow felt like ribbon that was shaped like daisies. Ive had this forever and had never used it so I figured it would look cute on this. I love the bright yellow and the shape of the flowers. Nice to finally find a way to use a piece of it. I cut a piece long enough to hang the burlap covered form at a height I wanted on the wall. I folded it in half and glued each end next to each other on the back of the covered form. Then I let it sit for a little bit to dry.
Last, I pulled out some super cute and simple pearl push pins that you can find at Dollar Tree and pushed a few of those in around the form. I used a couple to pin my notes on the form as well. And then I was done!! So easy and simple and it took me about 10 minutes total. Now I had a cute DIY pinboard to hang next to my desk and use for whatever I needed.
Since the wreath form, yellow flower ribbon, and push pins came from dollar tree, this was a super inexpensive DIY. I picked up the burlap ribbon at Michael’s where you can find different widths. I included a supply list below for you but you can use any ribbon for the loop and a different material to wrap the form too! It is always good to use what you have on hand.
