Do you love the Dollar Store and doing Dollar Tree DIY’s? I do! I love that I can grab inexpensive craft supplies that I don’t have to feel too guilty about stashing in my craft room. HAHA! I always have lots of ideas and see tons of great project ideas by other crafters. So, when I pop in to the Dollar Tree, I like to grab supplies when they have them or if I see something that inspires me. It is not overly expensive so I don’t have to dwell on not using the things right away or if I try to use them and toss it because it didn’t turn out or I didn’t like it, I don’t have to feel bad!!

Dollar Tree DIY Plate Riser

Today I am going to share a Dollar Tree DIY project I saw forever ago. Apologies to not being able to share where I first saw it but I know I caught it on a Facebook page somewhere. There are so many awesome Dollar Tree DIY crafters on social media these days. I tend to screen shot things I want to try to make later and I also read directions/watch videos and try to tell myself to make a note to grab the supplies. I can admit that I forget a lot because I hardly write the things down. Then, when I see something that was used, I remember and grab what I think they used and try to recreate it. This is one of those Dollar Tree DIY’s.

I made my first plate riser months ago when I saw a set of plates I liked at the Dollar Tree. I’m a sucker for anything teal. I’ve included a picture of that first teal one along with the pics of supplies and finished risers that I made this time.

I recently found some awesome plate sets one day when I walked into the Dollar Tree. I think it is some of their Halloween/Fall lines but I don’t really know (I am making an assumption here). Either way, I LOVED them and thought they would look really cool to dress things up for Halloween. My boys are older teens so I do not really do much for Halloween anymore but I do like to do a few centerpieces here and there. I like to keep it simple but a little festive! One of these risers is a great way to do just that!

What You Need For Your Dollar Store DIY Plate Riser

I grabbed a dinner plate and a saucer in the colors I loved. I grabbed plates that matched and were exactly the same but you can grab whatever combination you want. It can be two that match, are similar, or don’t match at all! It is really up to you and what you are going for. I also grabbed two small glasses. I went ahead and grabbed two candle stick holders/risers too because I thought they might look good with the plates I had chosen. You can grab any type of “center” you want to use. I suggest you set it on top of your large plate and put the smaller one on top of it to see if you like how it fits, sits, and looks.

When I did my original one with the teal plates, I grabbed a glass piece from the floral section in Dollar Tree. I also grabbed a spool of natural twine and wrapped the glass with it, glueing it in a few spots to hold it on. This time I thought I would use some thick string I already had on hand. I had purchased this string when I made a money lei for my son for his high school graduation. However, I went with something else when I made that. I think I bought it in a three pack off the sale aisle at Michael’s.

Next I decided what middle I was going to use (since I had gotten two different options when I bought my supplies, I needed to pick what to use!). You can see what each middle looked like in the pics. If I stuck with the glasses, I was debating wrapping the string around them but I felt like it would be too much. Ultimately, I went with the candle holders. I liked how simple they looked. I may have leaned away from the glasses because I didn’t want to wrap them. Plus, the candle holders allow more room on the finished risers.

How to Assemble Your DIY Plate Riser

Now we glue. I suggest using some of those silly little finger condoms. Either way, I urge you to be careful with the adhesive and the hot glue!! It can tear your skin off when it dries…trust me, I have done it. And lets be real, hot glue is HOT, so HOT, it will truly burn your skin. Be careful with that tip of the gun too; it is not your skin’s friend!

I planned on using the solid side of the candle holder on the bottom of my smaller plate. I used the adhesive (E6000) on the solid side of the candle holder by putting it around the edge and a bit on the middle. Then I added my hot glue with my glue gun and put it next to and on the adhesive. After that, I took the small plate, facing up, eyeballed it to get the center on top of the candle holder, then pushed it firmly onto it. I let it sit for about ten minutes.

While I was giving that time to set, I picked out some ribbon that I thought would look cute tied onto the middle. After about ten minutes, I turned the small plate over so I could see the bottom of the candle holder. I’m pretty sure these ones have a hole in the bottom. I took my E6000 adhesive and applied it to the edge of the circle and as close to the center as I could. Just like on the top, I added hot glue to the adhesive.

Having the large plate close to where you are working, flip your candle holder over. You should have your small plate back on top. Then gently push it into the middle of the top of your large plate. I just eyeballed the center but you do what works for you to get it in the middle. The last step is to tie a small bow with the ribbon you want to use onto the center (candle holder). If you like it without a bow, don’t use one.

DIY Dollar Store Crafts – How I Use My Plate Riser

You can style your new Dollar Tree DIY riser on your kitchen table, counter, coffee table, wherever your heart desires. You can even give it as a gift for some one else to enjoy. I would let it sit and cure and settle for a good 24-48 hours. You can add anything you want to bring the season or holiday in or just to add to your decor.

The teal one I made is sitting on a small shelf in my entry. My husband and boys use it for their wallets or whatever they empty from their pockets when they come in. I love how versatile they can be. I put one of these in the center of my dining table and love how it looks. Have you made a DIY Dollar Tree plate riser?
